Miscellaneous

It's a rainy Tuesday morning, and I have a full day ahead of me. Things are pretty much back to "normal," with the exception of not having a back fence. Well, we have 1/3 of the back fence, as our fence guy has gotten that far. Something tells me that he won't be working in the rain today. But Lord knows, we need it the precipitation. It hasn't rained since the hurricane.

I got in right under the wire and registered to vote for the first time in my life. Now I get to talk about politics! I never did before, since I didn't vote. I have to start researching candidates and issues for myself instead of depending on what others are saying.

We were looking forward to going to Philly to see Christian make his first DVD! Of course, there's a wedding that weekend, not to mention Punkin's BFF's birthday party. It's funny how everything seems to fall on one weekend every once in a while. I need clones. Anyway, I'm sure he'll be fabulous even without us in the audience.

And while I'm bragging on my buds, I have to publicly congratulate Kambri for selling her book to Random House!! This woman continues to be a stellar example of "thoughts become things." I'm a little jealous, but much more proud. Congrats, KC!

Creative Thoughts

From the DailyOM:

Our thoughts are powerful forces in the creation of our experience of life. You may be able to recall a time when frustration that was based on a misunderstanding completely evaporated when your understanding changed. This is because our interpretation defines our experience, and it can change in an instant. Our only true reality is the present moment, so rather than merely accepting that life is happening to us, we can harness the power of our thoughts to actively create a positive reality. For example, we can choose to appreciate beauty around us rather than focusing on traffic or look for admirable qualities in the people we deal with rather than focusing on the negative. By choosing how to interpret and define each moment with your thoughts, you truly create your reality.

Throughout the day, we can monitor our thoughts to catch ourselves in the middle of investing our energy elsewhere—such as into belief in limitations—and instead pull our focus back to the infinite possibilities of the present. Taking a deep breath will help us center our thoughts on being in our bodies right now. Regular meditation allows us to gain mastery over our minds so that we can still our thoughts to focus on the pureness of being. If we mentally dwell on the past or the future, we may miss the experience of living in the present moment. Setting and visualizing goals is wonderful, but we can bring our thoughts into our current experience by taking steps to create them now.

Our minds are powerful tools that we can harness to create our reality. Through them we move the unformed energy of the universe into form, which gives us direction for our words and actions. Each thought is like a stone dropped into a lake, sending ripples out into our world to affect all they touch. We can choose our focus and how we invest our energy, which gives us the power to design our lives to be whatever we choose in each and every moment.

My Foray into the Mainstream

The Secret is sure getting a lot of attention. First Larry King, then Oprah, and now an article in the local paper. I'm glad these ideas are going mainstream. Maybe people will be more positive and kinder to one another. Anything that gives people hope has my vote.

And speaking of vote...I attempted to watch American Idol last night for the first time in ages. I usually like to tune in at the beginning of the season to see the really bad people. It makes me not feel so bad about my shower singing. Anyway, I watched for about 20 minutes and saw nothing. There were commercials and something that looked like a telethon. What happened? Is Idol getting to be like MTV, who lost the "music" part of "music television" a long time ago?

I hate to admit it, but I am glad we have cable. At least when we want to watch television, there's usually something interesting on. It seems like pop culture is drowning in commercialism.

Catching Up

Ok, I've been a bit lax in posting lately. I hate "forcing" an entry, you know? But I have to report more law of attraction stuff that has been going on. For one thing, I manifested a 3-day headache. It was so weird - I gave it so much attention that it affected my general health. Once I got distracted yesterday, it went away.

I have also been visualizing branching out and incorporating more variety into my professional life. Now, I've got a concrete plan to do a workshop for parents on how to have "the talk" with their tweens (kids age 7 - 12). I've been asked to volunteer for a significant project with Postpartum Support International and I have started doing psychological testing, which is really fun for me. Also, after months of searching, I think I have found an office mate. I know I was having conflicting feelings because I really do love having my own office. BUT, sharing it will defray some of the cost. The lady that I met with today said it was a "God thing" for her to end up in Pearland instead of a different town as things were falling into place for her. Her name fell into my lap from the universe - an associate of an associate type of thing.

So...life is exciting here outside the box, at least for today. How are things in your world?

I Had a Good Day...

...yesterday. I went and saw Mike Dooley speak about manifesting change. It was thorougly informative and Mike was a really nice, down-to-earth person with a lot of wit. I got him to sign my "Totally Unique Thoughts" book.

Then, I got bombarded with plans from my wonderful family. Punkin wanted to go play with a friend and Shane wanted to go to the BBQ Cook-Off, which we did. One piece of advice, though: if you have tickets to one of the booths like we did, go in the afternoon - not at night. It took us 3 hours to park, get on the bus, get to the cook-off, get to our booth, get a plate of food and ONE drink, get back to the bus, get to the car and get home. We had a lot of fun just being silly, though. The friends we were with always crack me up.

The big belly laughs came from Bruce doing a great impression of Philip Seymour Hoffman in Along Came Polly: "Dude, we gotta go. I totally just sharted."

I heart potty humor.

I Had a Bad Day...

...and the more I focused on it, the worse it got. It's not worth getting into here, but let's just say that the law of attraction was evident. It's kind of like when you stub your toe getting out of bed and that sets the tone for the rest of the day.

The frustrating thing for me is that when I see this happening, I have trouble changing my focus. The harder I try to think of other things, the more I think about what's wrong. When you believe in the law of attraction, you know that you are attracting more yucky things by giving unpleasant things your attention.

Skeptics and believers in the law alike - how do you get yourself out of a "funk"?

My Bad!

I totally forgot to post here that The Secret was going to be featured on Oprah last Thursday (2/8). Thanks, Tracey, for reminding me. If you want to see what you missed, check it out here.

A Little Pursuit

Well, we have the first offer on our old house - exactly 5 days after we put it on the market! We're negotiating, but it looks promising.

I got the good news while sitting in the theater watching The Pursuit of Happyness. I had gone out to the restroom and listened to my messages. I was filled with such gratitude to the Universe and God! Even though nothing is set in stone yet, I am reassured that my thoughts are once again becoming things.

The movie I definitely give 5 stars! I've always enjoyed Will Smith's work, way back from The Fresh Prince. His little son Jaden is a cutie pie! This movie will make you laugh and cry, feel sad and joyous, take you to the depths and the heights. I recommend it highly for anyone who needs a little inspiration.

Another Thought-Thing

Last weekend, I took Punkin to Justice for Girls at her request. She had $12 she wanted to spend. Well, the store is quite pricey, though their stuff is really cute. She left disappointed that she couldn't afford anything much. She kept asking how, besides her allowance money, could she get enough to go shopping there? I told her to manifest it.

My MIL called this morning (Punkin has been with them this weekend) and told me that Punkin had won $75 on a football square while they were at a banquet last night! If you believe in luck, you would probably say she's one of the luckiest people you know: she's won a carnival basket of toys worth $300, 2 classroom drawings and now this - all in the last 3 months!

Children are so much better at this stuff than adults because their minds are so much more open. They believe in magic, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. One of my endeavors as a parent is to help her keep her mind as open as possible in the coming years.

Metaphysical Support for Self-ishness

I liked this timely quote from The Teachings of Abraham:

If we were standing in your physical shoes, that would be our dominant quest: Entertaining Yourself, pleasing Yourself, connecting with Yourself, being Yourself, enjoying Yourself, loving Yourself. Some say, "Well, Abraham you teach selfishness. And we say, yes we do, yes we do, yes we do, because unless you are selfish enough to reach for that connection, you don't have anything to give anyone, anyway. And when you are selfish enough to make that connection -- you have an enormous gift that you give everywhere you are.

All Is Well

cats and dogs

it was so foggy this morning, i couldn't see more than 10 feet in front of me! it was nothing like i'd seen before, except maybe glimpses of the trailer for "the fog." seriously. they called it "sea mist."

today was amazing. i was on the phone from 9am until after 1pm fielding inquiries, new clients wanting appointments and missing in action clients wanting to come back. and here i thought the holidays were the "slow" time of year! i suppose the saying "be careful what you wish for" was validated for me today. hey - i'm not complaining.

my wonderful husband talked to my in-laws and we're having christmas eve at our new house! yay! i can't wait to have a house full. i even went and bought a tree today, which i wasn't going to do if we were going out of town.

my cup runneth over and spilleth!

i finally saw field of dreams today. it really was a great illustration of how our sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth senses work. (9 senses? google it!) i think it was such a hit because it rings true with us...how most of us wish we could dare to dream. or because it inspires us to dare. but i'm just speaking for myself.

secret messages

terry left a comment on the last post that inspired this one. the subject of manipulating the universe vs. recognizing messages from the universe is something i am having fun learning about right now.

according to the third law of motion, or the law of attraction, we all have the power to create our own realities. that means that we can make things happen and manifest the things and events in our lives with the power of thought. there isn't a very big difference between the creation process and being aware of the subtle messages that are being sent to you from the universe, but there is a difference. i believe that a person can be so wrapped up in creating that they miss these messages of guidance.

the next time you find yourself hit with a "coincidence," really pay attention. these situations in particular are usually the universe communicating with us. the other day, a friend of mine told me about a good book she was reading by a man named eckhart tolle. that night, i saw a big advertisement in a magazine about the very same author (who i hadn't heard of before this). the next day, the same friend called me and said that she had gotten a phone call out of the blue from an old friend of hers, who suggested that she read a book by...eckhart tolle.

today, i have the power of now by eckhart tolle playing in the cd player of my car - an out-of the-blue loan from my friend. it is an excellent resource to remind me that the present moment is the ultimate gift. things like this allow me to stay off of anxiety and depression meds! they are wonderful messages from the universe that tell me that all is well.

another example is the new house. about a month ago, we had come across a different house that caught our eye. it seemed perfect! it had everything we wanted in a new home (except for a large garage) and we were so excited! however, another couple also was interested, and we had to put in an offer in competition with the other people. they "won" the house, turning in an offer that was actually $6,000 above the asking price!

we were crushed...at first. after we got over ourselves, we realized that that wasn't our house. we were able to get the message that hey - don't be sad. this wasn't your house anyway. you'll come across your house, and it'll all work out!

lo and behold, a few weeks later we found our house. it's even more perfect (the garage holds 3 cars) and it is priced $44,000 less than the first house! and of course there was no competition for it - after all, if it's our house, then no one else would be involved.

so, while we were consciously creating the home that we wanted, we also had the presence of mind to listen to the subtle messages of our experience. we could have gotten really disappointed and lost the passion for house-hunting. we could have gotten angry or disillusioned. remembering that how we feel is our choice allowed us to stay in a mode in which we could receive what was already ours.

thoughts become things, et. al.

say hello to our new house! the lot is over 1/4 acre - i think the backyard picture says it all. (things are bigger in texas...even marilyn monroe!) we are scheduled to close on it after thanksgiving.

on a totally unrelated note, here's a poem i came across while reading think and grow rich by napoleon hill:

if you think you are beaten, you are,
if you think you dare not, you don't
if you like to win, but you think you can't,
it is almost certain you won't.

if you think you'll lose, you're lost
for out of the world we find,
success begins with a fellow's will -
it's all in the state of mind.

if you think you're outclassed, you are,
you've got to think high to rise,
you've got to be sure of yourself before
you can ever win a prize.

life's battles don't always go
to the stronger or faster man,
but soon or late the man who wins
is the man who thinks he can!

"thoughts become things", part 2

i posted a while back about "thoughts become things." well, yesterday a friend's thought indeed became a major thing! this is one of my best friends - she has 2 kids, a husband, a mortgage and a car payment (i'm sure there's more, but i don't pry).

it was this certain friend that introduced me to quantum physics, which led me to an interest in the metaphysical. yesterday, one of her five aunts invited her to lunch. the aunt then proceeded to offer to pay off their mortgage and alluded to giving them a down payment for a bigger house (yes, she is wealthy). they will save about $1500 per month!

i know for a fact that my friend's husband has been visualizing a financial windfall. we've talked about it several times. so when we talked yesterday, i wasn't too surprised. the weird thing was that after he said, "i have some news," i automatically thought it would be something bad. i've been conditioned!

i am very interested to see how this plays out. i am just thrilled for them, and am anxious for my turn.

it's all good

i have been studying the law of attraction, consciousness, the possibilites of manifesting, and other metaphysical stuff lately. i come across many scientific experiments that interest me; for example, messages from water. today, i read about an experiment conducted in france that was fascinating.

you can follow the link to read more details, but the essence of the experiment goes like this:

a robot was "guided" by a random-number generator (it produces zeroes and ones) - the numbers provided the robot's trajectory. baby chicks were hatched in the presence of the robot, and thus they were imprinted by the idea of the robot as their mother. as instinct dictates, they started following their "mother" around. the experimenters put the chicks in an enclosed area where they could no longer follow the robot. interestingly, the robot started hanging around in the quadrants closest to the chicks, though its programming had not changed and it was still being driven by the random-number generator. for whatever reason, the generator was producing significantly more ones than zeroes all of a sudden. in subsequent experiments, human consciousness seemed to change the numbers that were generated six months previously.

this is the kind of stuff that really grabs my attention and gets me thinking. it's becoming clear to me that the contents of my thoughts are more important than i ever imagined! i am making a concerted effort to choose to look at things from a positive perspective. you know - it's all good!
