The Lowdown on Part 3

In case you haven't noticed, there are at least three "Part 3" movies in the theaters now: Shrek 3, Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3. Now, I have seen them all. I must warn you, there may be a bit of a ***SPOILER*** in this post.

I liked Shrek 3. I mean, what's not to like? You have burping, poop jokes and the moral of the story. Spiderman was good - the special effects were off the charts. The storyline was a bit too complicated for my taste, and Spidey had way too many bad guys to keep track of. Then there was Pirates.

I am a huge Pirates fan. I was looking so forward to having things resolved in this installment of the trilogy. Unfortunately it was very unsatisfying. And now I wonder if the powers that be are going to make a part 4 - they sure left it open to do so!

One of the things I liked about Pirates was how the writers could take a complex plot and seamlessly sew it together. This time, however, the plot was too confusing and filled with seemingly useless characters. I mean, how did Jack know Tia Dalma if she was this sea goddess the whole time? And what was exactly the purpose of Calypso? And where did this whole "replace Davy Jones" come from? You'd think that one of his slaves would have stabbed the heart years ago. And come on...Will Turner is now some weird immortal dude? So in 10 years when he can beach again to have a conjugal visit with his wife, he won't notice that she's getting old? And what about Elizabeth? She's going to be faithful for 10 years at a time?

Anyway, if you're hoping for resolution in this movie, you will probably be disappointed. I hope the writers stop while they're (sort of) ahead.

I never hope for resolution in anything, but good analysis of the movie.

I'M SORRY I DIDN'T COME OVER TODAY.

I'm just so wired about this June 7th presentation thing at NASA. I promise I will make it up to you.

Re: Spider-Man 3.

How is it that Sand Man is able to cry? Wouldn't he be... Mud Man?
