whine and cheese

i realized today that i have generally stopped complaining about things i can't control. i did indulge in a nice whine session about my ipod here and to a few friends who helped me figure it out (thanks!) today. it felt weird to be bitchin'.

i used to be the queen of the whine 0's. complaining was my hobby, and i had it down to a fine art. i have slowly realized just how much power verbalization gives to thoughts - good and bad. just look at the tried-and-true self-improvement method called "affirmations." you're supposed to repeat a nice thing about yourself over and over. if you're a saturday night live fan, you may remember "stuart smalley" - i'm good enough, i'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!

in a more common form, thinking that you're not worth anything, that you're stupid, inadequate, inept and irresponsible on a daily basis crushes the spirit. i see way too much of that in my office.

next time you're going to complain about something, remember that the words you speak only magnify and strengthen the concept behind them. alas, think before you speak.

If it can do that to water, just think of what it can do to you.
