non-traditions

so, i "missed" thinksgiving this year. yes, while you were tolerating your family, i was vomiting. or perhaps you were puking, too...it happens. so, i got to eat a little leftover turkey and fixins once my nausea was down to a dull roar. we went to the in-laws' house where we obtained aforementioned nourishment and ended up staying until today.

the good news is that i didn't continue to hurl all weekend. in fact, i didn't blow chunks at all after thursday. we had a very nice visit! looks like we will have a new member of the family soon, too. i found out that it's a boy!

yes, i didn't tell you alll here that we are looking to adopt a dog. as a life-long cat person, i feel a bit traitorous, but the fact is that cats do not sleep with you all night long and get excited to see you when you come home. (there are exceptions, i know - but our cats just give us the finger most of the time)

my mil found a year-old japanese chin that needs a home, so we are making a group effort to move the little guy down here from dallas once we get settled into our new house. it has become clear that punkin needs a companion, and the cats just ain't cooperating.

so, there have been several broken traditions this weekend (santa's village if you're counting, mil) - but i am swiftly learning that everything traditional just serves as a general guideline...or maybe even a contrast to what possibilities are out there.

New House = housewarming and friends (plus beer)

Sure, I'll pet any mutt.

You can classify a cat's personality by it's appearance most of the time so I would suggest a grey (or blue as they are sometimes called) or an orange tabby (if you are ever in the market for more kitties); calicos are a no-no. And you'll have better luck with boys than girls. I find it difficult sometimes to share a queen size bed with my husband and three cats every night. Be glad they don't sleep with you.

I'm soooo sorry about your vomitting. That is poor timing. Glad things got better and you're getting a doggie out of your visit. I love doggies! And a housewarming party sounds good...

Sorry about the nausea. But that plus the new family member comment sure made me think you were having a baby. You aren't, are you? I mean, besides the baby doggie.

Having a cat plus a dog, I've gotta say they each have their good traits. Personally, my cat walks up to meet me at the car and acts like I'm the greatest think since sliced bread -- make that canned tuna. He also walks and bathes himself.

The dog, on the other hand, well, is a dog.

Good luck with yours. And I recommend reading Cesar's Dog Whisperer books. I only wish I had started out the right way.

No babies for me...unless God really wants me to have one, of course. A dog will be enough!! =) Thanks for the book suggestion - I will check it out. Yur cats sound awesome! Mine will come to me when THEY want something! LOL
