sleep over?

why is it that the powers that be call 2 unrelated children, who are friends, that stay overnight at one or the other's home a sleepover? from my experience, there's not much sleeping going on. punkin has had these social events 2 weekends in a row now. last weekend, her friend d. came over. actually, that experience wasn't too bad, except for the fact that his grandmother had to come pick him up at 8am for sunday school. this weekend, we hosted punkin's best friend m. she quickly became known to captain crotch and me as "queen high in the land of maintenance."

the girl needs something every 2 minutes and is not afraid to open any closed door to ask for it. the worst part was getting her to sleep. apparently, she falls asleep to the tv at her house. so captain crotch and i were up and down from 9pm to about 11pm fetching water, setting up the portable dvd player, rubbing faces, rearranging beds, and turning on and off the radio. at some point, i passed out, but captain crotch said he was up at least 2 more times before the girls fell asleep. this was m.'s first sleepover, so i can sympathize with her anxiety about being away from home. but next time, we're going to call it a wakeover (or better yet - i'll send punkin over there!).
