we have had no water all day. it ceased to flow at 8:30 this morning and has yet to resume. the municipal utility people say there's a broken water main and the workers have run into trouble trying to fix it. 12 hours of trouble.
i have found that this is another case of "you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone." i take running water for granted. but now that we don't have it, i couldn't wash the dishes in the sink that i blew off washing yesterday. we can't flush the toilets or take a shower. we have to use bottled water for brushing teeth and washing faces.
our good friends in the neighborhood across from us were generous enough to let us use their facilities to shower and do necessary toilet activities. punkin was cracking me up as we drove over there. she had caught on to some of my lingo and was saying, "man, i really have to take a dump!" there's just something about her little 5-year-old voice saying that she had to unload that had me in hysterics.
this makes me think of people in third world countries and the tsunami victims. not only are they inconvenienced today, but they are in this situation every day. and the water that is available may not even be safe to drink. we are truly blessed.
what's the last adverse thing that happened that made you count your blessings?
