Twilight Zone

No, not the movie! Sheesh! I'm talking about my private practice this week. It was a vortex of odd crises galore. I can't go into much detail but here goes:

#1. Female client split with fiance. Suicidal.

#2. Female client had first auto accident. Oh, and she has multiple personalities.

#3. Male client disappears for 2 days. Turns up in a casino lying pathologically.

#4. Female client's son has freak accident at work, gets electrocuted and dies. He is 19 years old.

This is all within 7 days.

Yes, I am drinking tonight.

Weekend Update

My weekend was really good. Friday, Shane and I went to see Christian Finnegan perform at the Laff Stop. It's always a treat to see his set, and also to see his wife, Kambri. In between visits, I forget just how full of life they are. It's totally contagious! And Christian, I apologize for trying to use your CD to balance the table. I'm just a logical kind of person. It was nothing personal.

The rest of the weekend was spent at an ACT conference, where I learned the basics of this new therapy. I am so excited about it because it will allow me to use some Eastern techniques (mindfulness, etc.). So far, all of my clients have really liked the exercises I have them do in session. Maybe this will energize my practice and get things going again.

Now it's Monday and if I don't get to see Harry Potter today, I will cry. My needs are simple.

Ommmmmm

I have tried on and off throughout my life to meditate without much success. I can sit for 5 minutes tops before I get frustrated. I guess it's the achiever in me wanting to do it the best...now.

Why do I want to meditate? First of all, I've always been an anxious person, so I tried meditating as a way to inner peace. Secondly, I have read many accounts of extraordinary spiritual experiences happening in a meditative state, and I certainly wouldn't be opposed to that! If you're a long-time reader then you know how much difficulty I have staying in the present moment, though I must say I have gotten better at it over the years.

That being said, I have to tell you about a couple of audio technologies I have found that induce a meditative state automatically! As in, you don't have to do anything but listen to these things on your mp3 player. The tones induce theta brain waves, which is the state of deep meditation. You're in a trance and don't even know it!

I have been using these things for about 6 months now and my sense of peace has quadrupled. I find myself being more intuitive - not second guessing myself anymore. I am also noticing more "coincidences" and synchronicities in my life. These technologies are not "quick fixes" by any means, but if you're looking for spiritual growth, I'd highly recommend them.

Take a look:

What do you do to reach for inner peace? I'd love to hear your ideas!

Now what?

I feel like it's time to do something new professionally, but I am not sure what. I have looked at different modalities of therapy - Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), and Psych-K. Nothing seems to really grab me.

There's a big ACT conference locally this summer that I may attend to learn more about it. I am just getting tired of the same old methods and would like to expand my reportoire. I have had a lot of good results personally with Eidetic Imagery, but the training seems too disorganized for my taste.

I guess this is one of the times when I need to sit back and see what opportunities the Universe brings to me professionally.

Opinions Wanted

So I am seeing this couple in therapy. The man looks at Internet porn pretty regularly. The woman kissed another man. Not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things, but which indiscretion do you think is "worse"? Why?

Wacky Tapping

Sometimes, I come across some really wacky stuff. Also, there are times when the really wacky stuff has some merit to it. I am currently earning continuing education credits studying this. I'll keep you posted because I'm going to test it out on myself!
