the past couple of days have been interesting. we spent the weekend at my dad's house in the woods. punkin always has a good time there, especially since he put up his above-group pool. it's a little less than 4 feet deep, perfect for a 6-year-old. so we had swimming races, played water limbo and even figured out how to play jump rope using a noodle. it was physically demanding for the people holding the "jump rope." it's not easy getting a noodle to go 3 feet under water!
the captain and i spent last night in a local hotel. there were lots of guests from louisiana staying there. we had a nice dinner at romano's macaroni grill and then came back to our room to attempt to buy an in-room movie. i say "attempt" because we have had the hardest time with the movie gizmo at this particular hotel, no matter what room we've been in! this time, we couldn't get the movie menu to come up on the tv, so i had to call the 1-800 help line number. they had us looking for some converter thing on the back of the tv. when he said we were going to have to take it apart, i said forget it. sitcoms are probably just as entertaining, much less of a hassle, and free.
today, i got to hear my mother bitch and complain to me about my father. that's always awesome. i tell her, "mom, i don't want to hear this. i don't want to be in the middle." she says she understands, then keeps complaining. the issue du jour was that my dad didn't come by to pick up the ashes of their dog on saturday. dad says he didn't specifically tell her he'd come on saturday - he gave her a "the next couple of days" timeframe. but mom swore he said saturday and since he didn't call or show up, he had disrespected her once again and some people never change, yada, yada. can you say, "migraine?"
anypoodle, we're back home now and i'm doing laundry and getting my stuff ready to teach class tomorrow. that's going to be a bit odd, but i'll do my best!
