my least favorite tree

it's "hump day." that must mean that the morning is uphill and the afternoon is downhill. that sounds about right. i remember in my younger days, the weekend would start on thursday night anyway.

i woke up from a creepy dream at 4:20am and couldn't go back to sleep. some of you on my blogroll will probably see my comments from the wee hours. while i'd rather have a full night's sleep, i do enjoy the quiet of the early morning. no one is stirring in the house and all i hear outside are tree frogs and shift workers coming home or going to work. it's just enough noise from civilization to keep me from feeling lonely, yet not be oppressive.

i was messing around with my financials this morning and tallied up income from my practice from june and july. i made $635 in june and $1075 in july. when i get some extra time, i'd like to graph my earnings since i "opened the doors" in august 2004. looking at my income made me doubly thankful for the captain's job. no pressure there, cap!

i think i mentioned our cable modem had been down last weekend. i called time warner cable to see what we could do about it and was ping-ponged through countless call trees for 8 minutes. i timed it. 8 whole minutes of "blah, blah, press 1" before getting put on hold for a customer service person! i called 3 or 4 times because i kept having to hang up - i kept running out of time! in the end, the captain and i fixed the stupid connection ourselves. it's amazing what taking apart your whole lan and putting it back together will do. stupid call trees. what happened to the good ol' days when you called, got a recording that someone will be right with you and then got put on hold immediately? or even the stone ages when a live person actually answered the phone?? my daughter will probably never know the wonders of talking to a real, breathing person on the telephone when she makes customer service or tech support calls. *sigh* such a thing to miss out on...
