now that we're in the aftermath of hurricane katrina, the pleas for help have started. and of course we should help if we can! but the same day the devastation took place in louisiana, i got an email from a friend who's starting a fund for a mutual friend that has breast cancer and had a double-mastectomy. in addition, i got solicitations in the mail from the red cross, the humane society and "save the children." i think i have charity overload because my instinct is to just keep my money in my wallet!

the captain and i used to give regularly to our charities of choice. his was world vision and mine was the houston humane society. somehow, that petered out and we started giving to the building project at our church, which is ongoing until next year. we gave to the tsunami relief efforts and several times to the post-9/11 funds.

i guess it's hitting me just how many tragedies are happening lately. it makes me want to read revelation. i can't save the world but at this moment i have to scratch my head and ponder what's next.
