the lion king x mst3k

last night, punkin's school did a production of "the lion king." it was cute, and some of the kids really had great voices. punkin is not one of them, however. she was an elephant, and her part consisted of sitting on various parts of the stage during each act and singing background. her fellow elephant kept taking her trunk and putting it over her mouth, which did act as an amplification device, unfortunately. the highlights and lowlights:
  • no little kids cried uncontrollably on stage
  • one little kid, who was not in the production, ran up on stage and danced his heart out until his mom drug him back down
  • there was an incredible amount of feedback from the microphone, which happens every year
  • my friend and i created our own dialogue for the play, a la mystery science theater 3000

our running dialogue kept the play interesting, though i wonder how much of it got on other people's soundtrack as they filmed their kids: which one is simba? there seems to be 5 simbas. is that scar? i didn't know scar was a zebra! shouldn't simba and nala be making out? hey, i didn't know there was a girl with a weave in the lion king! [referring to the dance number that they threw in there that had nothing to do with the play itself] since when does simba have horns? ohhh they're ears! i thought we had satan simba up there. how come my kid has to be a bad guy? [he was a hyena] it's typecasting! *dirty look*

i love school plays.
