what a day! it started out pretty average - i took punkin to school, then came home to grade more papers written by seemingly retarded people. i decided to check my email and that's when it happened - armageddon! i knocked my full glass of orange juice directly on to my keyboard. after i cleaned up as much of the mess as i could, i tried typing something to see what state the poor keyboard was in. let's just say it responded as if it had had a lobotomy.
so then i was faced with a decision: meticulously take the keyboard apart and clean up all the sticky stuff with q-tips and water or spend $20-$30 and get a new one? i remembered the *ffice dep*t gift card i had earned for spending an insane amount of money there last quarter when i was starting up the office. i quickly pulled up their convenient website, found the one i wanted, and placed an order, thinking i would just run up to the local store and pick up my treasure. after i saw my afternoon clients, i drove over to the store. the very helpful manager looked at my receipt and wandered around the store for a while, going in and out of secret-looking doors marked "employees only." he asked some workers questions. he fiddled around on his own computer. i walked over there and told him that if he didn't have the one i had ordered, i could pick out a different one. he looked relieved as he led me to the keyboard section. they had a few different models...all wireless and costing between $60-$80.
i asked him why their website doesn't verify what's in stock before it tells me that something is in stock. he rolled his eyes and sighed at the thought of those corporate bastards who only cared about the bottom line. "i don't know, ma'am," he said. "next time, make sure to call us first." hmmmm... #1: don't call me "ma'am" and #2: so i should call the store to make sure something is in stock before i order it off a website? yeah, that makes a lot of sense. i think the people that are running this gig take my class.
