meet 2005

hello new year. why does having to buy a new calendar mean so much to so many people? why do we wait for the new year to reflect on our goals and make new ones? it's not like today is any different from 3 days ago. i suppose a new year can symbolize a new beginning. there are so many rituals around the world to bring in the year. we spent new year's eve with some people of cuban descent, and their tradition was to eat 12 grapes for good luck. here in texas, you're supposed to eat black eyed peas on january 1 (yuck!). what are your new year traditions?

in other news, you and i made ABC's "people of the year" and should have shut out the president for time magazine's most honored position, according to many...well...bloggers. it amazes me that something i stumbled upon a few years ago has taken off in such a big way. too bad random acts of kindness can't spread like wildfire.

speaking of random acts of kindness...here are my - dare i say "resolutions" - for 2005:

1. re-commit my life to Christ (actually I did that last night, witnessed by our church's prayer partners)

2. start up the ol' exercise routine again - starting goal is 30 minutes 1x/week, increased weekly until i achieve at least 30 minutes 3x/week

3. focus on the important things (family, friends, compassion) and not worry so much about the fringe stuff (work, housecleaning, etc.)

4. commit random acts of kindness at least 3x/week

so there you have it. i hope to post regular updates about my progress. it always helps to have accountability. so, if you don't hear about my goals for a while, shoot me an email and ask. i'll tell you if i've been slacking or not. what are your dreams and aspirations for this, the new year?
