My maiden name started with an R so I got pretty used to being near the bottom of the pile. When teachers would call roll, I had to stay semi-alert until they were done. I always had to sit next to Kevin Rossi, who still ate his boogers in high school. I can picture him now, zoned out, staring into space...digging up to the knuckles for his mid-morning snack.
After I got married, I became a G. I considered this moving up in the world. When I went back to grad school, I was able to say, "Here!" within the first couple of minutes. In fact, if you think about it, G is pretty darn far up there. It's the 7th letter in the alphabet! I can only imagine how you A's must feel! I've always been a little jealous of the A's.
Anyway, ever since I learned my ABC's, one of the ways I remembered the order of the infamous "elemenohpee" was that N was "older" than M. Yes, in my little mind, the end letters are chronologically older than the ones at the beginning. So that means that going from R to G gives me youth as well as status!
I feel sorry for you old, trashy Z's. You're bad news.

I wonder why they get older the further down? I'd think the opposite.
One of my college friends told her daughter and me to marry up in the alphabet. The mother went from Y to W. I think I'm marrying down...
I grew up a "B" then when I married I matured into a "C" (gosh, I wish we were talking about bra size here!).
Having "C" kids is good - they're up there, but not so much as to get big heads like those "A" kids (and I'm really glad we're not talking about grades here!).
cjh, are there marriage plans imminent??
I said something, but can't remember its alphabetical order.
As "C"reechman, I don't know what you are talking about.
I'm way down at "N." It stinks. My wife is an "A" and refused to take my name when we married - and who could blame her? If we had kids, I'd give them her last name...
Not imminent. Yet. But at least if it has to be way down in the middle of the alphabet, at least it's a "Mc" name. Always liked that little c followed by a capital something else...
