My Gratitude List

One of the strategies for combating depression is to list your blessings. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but here are the things I am most grateful for:
  • My husband and daughter
  • The many friends who check on me daily (you know who you are)
  • My spirituality
  • The knowledge that "this too will pass"
  • Anti-depressants
  • My assistant
  • Modern technology that can distract me
  • My therapist
  • My mom and dad (who I really included in the friends category)
  • My job, which helps me feel useful
  • Hot showers
  • My doggies and kitties
  • The sunshine
  • My general good health

Making a list is a good idea. I mentally go away things I'm grateful for in the car, often when having a bad day or days. Not an all cure, but it does help intellectually, despite how you feel. :)

I use this, too, and it invariably helps. Other people sometimes think folks like us shouldn't get depressed. After all, we have access to all that education, training, the techniques, the meds, etc. And thank God for them but I'm ready for a cure, aren't you?

This is a great thing to do. And probably not real easy in the state you're in (depression, not Texas!). Sometimes if the pit is too deep you can't even see out to find the things to be grateful for. I hope this means you are seeing the light. I'm praying for you.

(I'm thankful for anti-depressants, too!)
