Nice Shot, Bob

Yesterday, I went golfing with my dad. It was his birthday, and for his gift I bought him 18 holes and a caddy (me). As oftentimes happens, we got put with 3 other people to make a foursome (yes, Eric, I said foursome).

They were all very nice and encouraging, and all pretty good golfers. They also allowed me to see that everyone has a partner on the course - namely their ego. For such a "gentleman's" game, there was a lot of whining going on!

One guy put 4 balls in the water on one hole and then threatened to quit. If someone made a nice shot, there was the obligatory, "Nice shot, Bob," from all involved, to which Bob replied, "Thank you." If a nice shot was ignored, the shooter looked around until someone said it. There were lots of mulligans, gimmes, and drops taken, which everyone conveniently ignored. I heard more cursing yesterday in 4 hours than on a whole Deadliest Catch marathon.

I can only imagine what goes on when people golf whilst drinking.

Peace out.

Yes, lots of whining and cussing in golf. Sometimes fit-throwing. Gentlemen, indeed!

Youngest Son (10) has taken up golf as his game of choice (he gave up baseball, much to my chagrin!). The little booger is good! Hopefully as he learns the game he won't pick up some of those lesser-desired behaviors that some golfers possess....

Sounds fun! Glad you got to spend some quality time with your dad. Men are very weird.

I have resisted golf to this point in my life, because I know once in, I'll break all my clubs over knee like Kevin Costner in "Tin Cup."

Then again, he had Renee Russo....
