blogger is ticking me off. i have some great pictures to share, but for some reason they won't upload. grrr. anyway, we spent the day today visiting the statue of liberty. this is the one tourist attraction that i have never taken the time to see during my previous visits to the city.
we had to take the dreaded subway again down to battery park, where the ferrys dock. there was so much construction going on down there! apparently, the battery conservancy is trying to renovate the area and make it more appealing to tourists. we had to go into castle clinton to buy our tickets, which once again provided long lines. there were no express passes to get us through this time! after we stood in line to get our ferry tickets, we went into line #2, which was the security line. after we were deemed "safe," we went to line #3 to wait for our ferry. next time, i'm doing the water taxi. they had hardly no line, were cheaper and were going to see more things. but by the time i saw they even existed, i had already bought the ferry tickets. oh, well.
the ferry ride was fun. it was neat to be able to look back and see the nyc skyline from liberty island. though we didn't have passes to go up into the statue and didn't want to stand in the humongous line to get into the pedestal museum, we had fun lying in the grass, looking up at lady liberty. it was getting pretty hot by 2-ish, so we decided to board the ferry to get back to manhattan. we skipped ellis island because i was concerned about the time.
we made it to the airport in plenty of time to hang out in the c0ntinental pres1dent's club before boarding our flight home. it was a great trip, and punkin had a fabulous time. we both agreed that time went by too fast, but we were happy to be home, sleeping in our own beds.
if there's anything in particular you want to see pictures of (except the empire state building - i didn't have my camera...duh!), email me and i'll send them to you.
