you'd think with summer camp field trips on fridays, punkin wouldn't have trouble getting ready to go in the morning. today, they are going to a gymnastics place where they can play on the equipment in an unstructured fashion. i like this because it gets her out and gives her some exercise and it exposes her to gymnastics, which she is taking some interest in.
this morning, however, she was reluctant to go. first, she wanted to play at the house. then she wanted to come with me to my office. when i shot down those ideas, she dragged herself dramatically into her room to get dressed. i took a phone call, and in the middle of it, she came out and saw that i was on the phone and "collapsed" on the floor. after the call was over (about 7 minutes), i asked her what her problem was, to which she responded she was sick. hmmmm...you weren't sick a few minutes ago. it's this shirt! (her field trip t-shirt) it makes me feel sick!
long story short, we got on the road at 9:20 to catch the bus that leaves the day camp at 10:00. fortunately, it is only a couple of minutes away. during the ride, she asked me whose fault would it be if she missed the bus? i rephrased the question: whose fault is it that you wouldn't get dressed and brush your teeth? her conclusion: it's your fault, mommy. if you weren't on the phone, i would have done it.
it's a good thing she didn't miss the bus. i think i would have dropped her off at the nearest illegal labor camp. now, that would have been my fault!

A child's logic...need I say more?
I don't know how you parents do it, confronting at home what you only expect among adults:
"dragging herself dramatically into the bedroom."
That's me after a bad date.
