stuff and things

so the captain and i drove across town to meet my dad. he's going to hang with the punkin for the weekend. we decided to meet at one of those cracker barrel restaurants and have lunch. after a good 30-minute wait (during which i found almost $40 worth of crap to buy in their "country store") we were seated. we noticed some commotion going on at a corner table where some large african-american gentlemen were seated. there was another guy standing there with a big video camera - the kind that television stations use. some young people were hanging around. upon further investigation, it turned out that the guys at the table were all famous rappers, though obviously i didn't know who the heck they were. as we were walking out to the car, we saw one of their tour buses that looked like it had broken down. i figured they couldn't be all that if they're eating at the cracker barrel and they didn't get any special treatment. they had to wait to be seated like the rest of us. but i guess it's not every day that you see a famous person.

fame is so funny. the young guys and girls that were hanging around the rappers were all giddy. we couldn't care less about them. in fact, one of them was in my way when i went to purchase my crap. he was very polite when he moved so that i could get in line. but take him out and put orlando bloom there, and i would have had a completely different reaction. i suppose fame is just like the rest of life - it's all about perception.

Rap sucks.

I used to like "old school" rap - EZ E and the like. They didn't rap about killing people and they didn't drop the f-bomb every 5 seconds like they do nowadays.

True, but my aversion is more basic. It's bad "music." Not cultural. Straighforwardly bad. Might as well bang bongo drums. Forget the lyrics. Rap has no innate musical structure, nothing redeeming. Yet... people bop bop bop along with it through red lights.
