where did july go? will someone explain to me how an entire month can blow by in a few seconds? unless you live in a cave, you have probably noticed all of the "back to school" commercials, banners in stores, and terrified looks on kids' faces. but somehow, i missed it. call me a cave-dweller.
as the parent of a child who is about to attend public school for the first time, i am dazed and confused. apparently, we have to do something called registration and buy things called school supplies. i am proud to say i am not totally behind on all of these foreign activities since they don't happen until august 1st. which brings me to my original point: august 1st is only a few days away!
the captain and i have gone over a few different scenarios as far as before and after school go. originally, i figured we'd have punkin's current private school pick her up so she could hang out in familiar surroundings after school. but then i found out that it costs $350/month for this service. for that price, we might as well keep her in the school full-time! so now we're looking at working out our schedules so that one of us will be here when school lets out for the day and paying for bus service, which is a much cheaper $30/month. it will be nice to be able to spend more time with her during the day if all of this works out.
i think the captain and i were both so traumatized by school experiences that we'd like to be able to skip the whole matter altogether. but i'm not homeschooling anyone and i don't feel like going to jail for not sending my kid to school. bring on the spitwads and bullies!
