talented

a mouse died somewhere in the wall. we can't find it. it stinks. does anyone know how to get rid of the smell? i am thinking we'll just have to wait it out. in the meantime, no one is getting invited over here. it smells like we've hidden a dead body.

i was thinking (shocker, i know) today about how even the most inept person is really quite talented. you're born, you grow up having someone take care of you (if you're lucky) and then you're launched out into the big ol' world all by yourself. you make friends. you get into relationships. you find jobs. i am not saying that we all don't get a little help along the way, but basically we create our own situations.

when i moved to houston i knew one person that lived here. and that friendship wasn't meant to be, so it didn't last long. i had to make friends from scratch. i spent a good year with no real girl friends. it was just me and my cat, bob. my boyfriend at the time, captain crotch, lived in a different city 90 minutes away. we'd see each other on the weekends, but that was it. a girl that lived in my apartment complex yelled at me one night as i was jogging around the perimeter. she wanted to know how many times around made a mile. i didn't know, but i invited her to run with me. we talked a little and made plans to go out the following night. we had a great time when we went out, and we've been friends ever since. she was even in my wedding. her roommate and i got along well, too, and she has been a friend and bridesmaid as well. in fact, we are going to go see a movie and have dinner tonight to celebrate her birthday. captain crotch and i have been married for 10 years. these 2 girls have been in my life for about 13 years. and we made and have nurtured these friendships on our own. that, in my opinion, takes talent.

how long is your oldest friendship? how did you meet him/her?
